05 Dec. 2015 – Notre Damme de Jamhour is organizing their yearly Athletics Triathlon on Sunday, December 13th, 2015. The Triathlon is a combined event of Sprint, Long Jump and Sho Put.
Such competitions are only organized once a year by NDJ and with the initiative of Alice KEYROUZ, the coach and head of the sports department at the college. The triathlon is an introduction to the combined events, especially at a young age. The official combined events by the IAAF are the Heptathlon for the women and the Decathlon for men in outdoor competitions.
The heptathlon is a two consecutive days competition in wich women collect points after each event. They start on the early morning of day one with the 100m hurdles, then compete in the high jump before moving to the afternoon where they compete in Shot Put followed by the 200 meters. The next day, they compete in Long jump, Javelin throw and 800 meters!
The Decathlon is a two days event as well, but it consists of 10 different events, five each day: 100m, Long Jump, Shot Put, High Jump on day 1, and the next day: 110m Hurdles, Discus throw, Pole Vault, Javelin Throw, 1500m.
The principle of points is the same in all combined events: after each discipline, the athlete collects a number of points according to the performance that he or she has achieved, irrelevant to his or her ranking, and the final result is the accumulation of all the points that the athlete had collected throughout the day. The athlete with the highest number of points wins!
