22 Feb. 2016- Lebanese young fencer Anthony CHOUEIRY made an outstanding achievement at the 2016 Juniors Asian Fencing Championship by grabbing the gold medal in his category.
CHOUEIRY won 9 matches against fencers from different nationalities and his toughest fights were in the eliminating rounds against the Sanjar ALIMOV (15-8) from Uzbekistan, Jawad AL DAOUD (9-8) from Saudi Arabia in the quarterfinal and the Japanese Kodai TAJIRI (15-10) in the semifinal. The final was easier for him where he defeated Shiva MAGESH from India 15-7.
“I have always been thinking that winning this competition is not impossible but I never expected it. Each game gave me motivation for the next one. Winning made me realize that I trained hard enough this season to compete at this level. This is my biggest achievement so far but I’m striving for more I’m happy too because I made everybody proud” – Anthony said after winning the gold medal.
