April 8, 2016 – There’s been a lot of talk in recent years about Beirut’s eligibility to host a Grand Prix. Hell, we almost won the bid to host an F1 track back in 1999.
For those of you who don’t know, Grand Prix races are not all held on private tracks since, for example, Monaco’s Grand Prix takes place in the streets of Monte Carlo, around the state’s port.
And while we wait for that dream to turn into reality in the country of Cedars, motorsports enthusiasts will have a rendezvous with Formula 1 in the streets of Beirut, in a live Showrun of Red Bull Racing’s own RB12, on Sunday, May 22nd.
In less than two months, Beirut will witness a unique first-of-its-kind motorsports event, where Red Bull Racing’s F1 car will deliver a show like no other, to thousands of Lebanese expected to flock to Beirut’s Waterfront to see the F1 car doing speed stretches, burnouts, donuts, and more.
Renowned racing driver Carlos Sainz Jr., son of rally legend Carlos Sainz, will take the F1 car on a ‘tour’, starting from the Wafiq Senno Street, through the Meer Majid Arslan Street, all the way to Ahmed Daouk Street. Yes, too many streets, and too much action!
The one-kilometer track will be witness to unprecedented thrilling action in the center of the capital, where F1 and motorsports fanatics will gather and get the chance to see the car up close and personal, and hear the roar of its powerful engine. Talk about machine chills!
Red Bull Racing is an Austrian Formula One racing, with four successive Constructors’ and Driver’s Championship titles, in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013, becoming the first Austrian licensed team to win the title.
Beirut’s Showrun event will be the third of a series of similar events touring the region. The Middle East’s first Showrun this year will take place in Oman on April 8, while the second one will happen in Jordan on April 22.
