07 Apr. 2016 – 11 Lebanese athletes are representing Lebanon at the 1st edition of the Juniors (18-19) West Asian Championship that will be held in Bahrain from April 14 to 16, 2016.

We should note that only four of the athletes participating are Juniors, the rest of the team is formed by Youth athletes aged between 16 and 17 years old. But the Youth athletes are not allowed to compete in two running events which the sum of the distance is more than 500m.

Mahmoud Daou (CSJ), the most modest athlete on the track will be running the 100 and 200 meters. We should mention that yesterday, at the Federation meeting, he broke the 200m record running the distance in 21.75 and he also ran an amazing 100m in 10.90! Jad KHOURY (Champville) who ran yesterday 11.08 on 100m will also compete alongside Mahmoud in both 100 and 200 meters.

Sara Joe KORTBAWI (Champville) will be running both the 800 and 1500 meters. Her teammate Lea OBEID will be running the 100 and 200 meters. The two Asian medalists have a great chance of winning medals for our country.

Ahmad CHOUR (Phoenicoa) and Peter KHOURY (Champville) will both compete in the 800 meters. Ahmad will also compete in 1500 meters. Montaser HAMIYEH (Phoenicia), the great distance runner will compete in the 5000 meters!

Ghiya MTAIREK from Phoenicia will compete in the 400 meters and Corine FREIHA (CSJ) will compete in both the 400m and the 400m hurdles.

In the field events, Jean Claude ABOU FAYCAL (Champions) will compete in both the shot put and discus throw while Georges GHAFARI (CSJ) will compete in the High Jump after his amazing 1.93 meters established three weeks ago.

We must say that this time it is a great delegation representing the majority of the clubs! We wish them the best of luck!

Lebanese Futsal Final – How did Mayadeen Blow Away a Second Advantage in the Series?

07 April. 2016 – After losing home court advantage in the first game against Bank of Beirut with a 4-8 loss, Mayadeen went into the second game at Emile Lahoud Stadium hoping for a win to bring the series to equal terms!

At first, things did not seem very well as Bank of Beirut scored the opening goal, but then,  luck finally turned towards Mayadeen. Indeed, BoB’s Lebanese star Ali Tneish picked up another yellow card in the series which prompted a ban on the next game! But then, Bank of Beirut did not let this get to their heads and scored another goal, before Mayadeen responded with 2 to level the score.

Towards the end of regular time, the game seemed headed towards extra time, with Mayadeen trying hard to get the win in order to gain back home court advantage and play the third game with their opponent’s star out. But, Bank of Beirut had a different opinion, scored a third goal 4 minutes from the end and then took advantage of a Mayadeen’s power play to counter attack, score a 4th goal and win 4-2!

There is no doubt missing Ali Tneish will hurt BoB in the third game away from home, but the scary thing is the 2-0 lead in the series which is a double edged sword! Indeed, it will either give the team enough confidence to end the series or it will make the players take things easily which can allow Mayadeen to bounce back in the series and build on the momentum!

To conclude, Mayadeen failed so far to take advantage from home court advantage and from the absence of Ali Tneish, but with the talent present in the team, bouncing back from a 2-0 deficit is possible!

08 Apr. 2016- Sagesse club secured the 4th place of the group A and will play against the leader of Group B (Homenetmen or Tadamon) in the final 8 series. The green castle’s management is now thinking of a way to boost the team performance and pass their next opponent.

Sagesse is now targeting foreign players, here’s how the negotiation process is going with the players:

  • Markus HAISLIP will cost the club 35000$ as a salary and an additional 20000$ should be paid for his release from the Turkish club.
  • Aaron HAYNES is one of the options, he’s a free agent and ready to join the club.
  • Elijah HOLMAN is the 3rd targeted import, HOLMAN asked for around 70000$ to play for Sagesse.

As far as we know, Ryan RICHARDS’ last chance to improve his performance is today against Riyadi or the coach will find an alternative and release him.

Well this is an idea of how things are going with Sagesse, the main question remains can they take the right choice to help the team reach the semifinals and the finals?

The Fast & the Luxurious – Beirut Meets F1!

April 8, 2016 – There’s been a lot of talk in recent years about Beirut’s eligibility to host a Grand Prix. Hell, we almost won the bid to host an F1 track back in 1999.

For those of you who don’t know, Grand Prix races are not all held on private tracks since, for example, Monaco’s Grand Prix takes place in the streets of Monte Carlo, around the state’s port.

And while we wait for that dream to turn into reality in the country of Cedars, motorsports enthusiasts will have a rendezvous with Formula 1 in the streets of Beirut, in a live Showrun of Red Bull Racing’s own RB12, on Sunday, May 22nd.

In less than two months, Beirut will witness a unique first-of-its-kind motorsports event, where Red Bull Racing’s F1 car will deliver a show like no other, to thousands of Lebanese expected to flock to Beirut’s Waterfront to see the F1 car doing speed stretches, burnouts, donuts, and more.

Renowned racing driver Carlos Sainz Jr., son of rally legend Carlos Sainz, will take the F1 car on a ‘tour’, starting from the Wafiq Senno Street, through the Meer Majid Arslan Street, all the way to Ahmed Daouk Street. Yes, too many streets, and too much action!

The one-kilometer track will be witness to unprecedented thrilling action in the center of the capital, where F1 and motorsports fanatics will gather and get the chance to see the car up close and personal, and hear the roar of its powerful engine. Talk about machine chills!

Red Bull Racing is an Austrian Formula One racing, with four successive Constructors’ and Driver’s Championship titles, in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013, becoming the first Austrian licensed team to win the title.

Beirut’s Showrun event will be the third of a series of similar events touring the region. The Middle East’s first Showrun this year will take place in Oman on April 8, while the second one will happen in Jordan on April 22.

09 Apr. 2016- Elijah HOLMAN is no longer an option for Sagesse as the player clearly said in his post on Ultras Riyadi group on Facebook.

Elijah wrote the following: “Good morning Riyadi fans, there’s a rumor that I’m joining the Sagesse team and that’s not true.”

HOLMAN also said that he might join Riyadi in the next season by saying: “I am trying to work something out with Riyadi for next season, but that’s it’s the management will talk. Let’s go Riyadi win the championship”

It seems that HOLMAN is really attracted to Riyadi club and Riyadi fans, he’s keeping them updated with all the updates that might upset them.
