09 Sep. 2016 – The journey for our young Lebanese judokas has ended in this year’s Asian Cadet Judo Championship that took place in India. 3 Lebanese athletes represented Lebanon in this major tournament and here are their final results:
Ghady Moussa lost his first game against Hong Kong.
Andreas Mechleb won his first fight against KSA, and had to face Uzbekistan in the next round. Sadly, the Uzbek fighter defeated him. However, he had a chance at improving his position with a repechage game, which lost to a Japanese fighter.
Joe El Haddad was able to defeat the Korean fighter in his first game thus qualifying to the quarter finals. Unfortunately, and despite having had the upper hand throughout the game, he lost his second fight by a point against the Uzbek fighter. It’s worth mentioning that the Uzbek is ranked 42nd in the world. This loss came as a shock as Joe was delivering an incredible performance and lost at the very last minute of the fight. He also had a repechage game against Iran but he lost it so he ended up in the 7th place. Joe promised to come back and train twice as hard in order to win a medal in the next major international competition.
Best of luck to these promising and dedicated athletes for their upcoming plans.
