27 Sep. 2016 – The Lebanese delegation at the 5th Asian Beach Games in Vietnam secured two more Bronze medals in Kurash, Martial Arts.
Pierre Bou Abboud won the Men’s -90kg Quarterfinal after defeating Kapil Sehrawat from India but lost in the Semi-finals against Yhlas Setdarov from Turkmanistan to secure a bronze medal.
On the other hand, Elie El Chaer won the Men’s -90kg Quarterfinal against Manish Kumar from India, before losing in the semi-finals against Nabi Aliyev from Turkmenistan.
Lea Farhat didn’t show up to the weight measurement for her first fight in the Women’s -57kg Round of 16. Karen Chammas, lost her first fight against Shih-Lin Su from Chinese Taipei in the Women’s -63kg Round of 16.
Moreover, Lea and Karen played in Jiu Jitsu as well. They both won their first game, lost in the semi-finals but didn’t win a bronze medal. They also both lost the bronze medal match which includes the two athletes who lost in the semi-finals. The winner get a bronze medal, instead of giving two bronze medal to the 3rd and 4th as it happened in the Kurash with the men.
In Jiu Jitsu, Ghady Moussa lost is first fight in the Newaza Men’s -62 kg Round of 16 against Sarawut Petsing from Thailand, and Kevin Nicolaos lost his first fight against Saoud Al Hammedi from UAE in the Newaza Men’s -85 kg Round of 32.
They also played the men’s duo and the team mixed but weren’t successful. They will have another chance in the Sambo on the 30th of September. We hope that they will be able to grab a medal in this new discipline.
